Joshua Powell’s Unwitting Confession
by
Joshua Powell’s Unwitting Confession
From the: Common Service Book of the Lutheran Church
O GOD, Who justifiest the ungodly, and Who desirest not the death of the sinner,
I’m going to do it.
ALMIGHTY God, Who hast given us commandment to pray for the gift of the Holy Ghost,
I have prayed. But my children . . .
O GOD, Whose strength is made perfect in weakness,
You saw fit to withhold from me
the news of my wife’s syphilis.
You who hath made me master of my house,
but then I lost my job.
We most earnestly beseech Thee to visit with Thy fatherly correction all such as have erred and astray from the truth of Thy holy Word, and to bring them to a due sense of their error, that they gain with hearty faith receive and hold fast Thine unchangeable Truth.
My children - they listen to The Beatles.
I’m going to…
O ALMIGHTY, Merciful, and Gracious God and Father, with our whole heart we beseech Thee:
Because, this is their chance at Heaven…
To my Love, Susan,
Shh, don’t wake the kids.
They’ll hear your death gurgle.
Christ, I’m glad you lost some weight.
Easy to trundle you out.
Let’s take the boys
camping at midnight
on a Sunday.
Let’s tell them you’re hiding in the trunk,
and laugh at you –
God, you’re stupid,
spooning the spare tire in the trunk.
while me and the boys are up here laughing and having a good time,
and already not missing you.
-Insincerely, Ever Sinning,
Joshua H. Powell
